Variety: Shiraz
Region: South Eastern
Country: Australia
Year: NV
Price: $9.95

Winery Review: A relatively light, fresh style of sparkling Shiraz, with berries and hints of chocolate picking up just a touch of sweet vanilla on the finish.

My Review: The color is a cranberry color, with some frizante/bubbles. The nose of this wine shows cranberry, cassis, and currant. The palate has a nice refreshing, bubbly flavor. It is fruity, crisp, and sweet. A great alternative to the typical sparkling wine.

Winery Review: The wine has a brick red color with a bouquet of red raspberries, spice and white pepper. The palate is incredibly concentrated and rich. The modern styles of Garnacha in Spain are continuously being perceived worldwide as wines of extraordinarily good quality. This wine is fruity, juicy and shows a great depth, ripe tannins, length but yet with wonderful elegance and lightness. Enjoy with sausages, roasted meats, aged cheeses, etc.

My Review: This wine has a ruby color. The nose of this wine smells like fresh drilled plastic. On the palate the wine starts out fruity, gets a full body with some heat on the mid-palate, and finishes dry.

Tasting- 2010 Montebuena

Winery Review: Ripe cherry and black current on the nose and in the mouth. Pliant and seamless in texture, with good heft and back-end energy. Finishes smooth and sweet, with fine-grained tannis providing shape and grip. Still on the young side but this wine drinks very well with an hour or so of decanting; it's an excellent value for Rioja.

My Review: The Montebuena Tempranillo has a nice dark ruby color. The nose has elements of cassis, plum, and blackberry. The palate starts hollow, transitions into some heat and spice, and then finishes dry.

Tasting- 2010 Potluck Sweet Malbec

Name: Potluck Sweet Malbec
Variety: Malbec
Region: Medoza
Country: Argentina
Year: 2010

Winery Review: Deep red brilliant with violet hints. Complex, fruity, and predominant red fruits. Easy to drink, round with persistent sweetness, very well balanced with sweet tannins.

My Review: This wine has a dark cranberry, ruby color. The nose of this wine hints at its sweetness with notes of cranberry cocktail, and a jammy aspect. The taste is a semi-sweet, fruity palate that is very easy to drink. This wine is very interesting because it is not overpowering with sugar like a moscato is, but also is not dry. Tasting- 2011 Domaine de Grange

Name: Domaine de Grange de Payan
Variety: Grenache
Region: Rhone
Country: France
Year: 2011
Price: $8.95

Winery Review: Intensely spicy and precise, with lively red berry flavors and a hint of black pepper. The Grenache is deeper and more powerful, offering cherry and black raspberry qualities lifted by zesty minerality.

My Review: This wine has a nice ruby color. The nose of this was extremely light, I had a hard time distinguishing anything. On the palate it was very smooth, yet slightly hollow and void of flavor. It was definitely dry, but there was surprisingly no heat for a 15% ABV wine. I think this one may be better in a couple years, it seems a tad too young to drink.

Winery Review: Figaro is 100% Garnacha, made from a selection of the best grapes grown in the oldest vineyards. While not truly an "oaked wine", a short stay in oak barrels provides a nice spicy flavor boost. Bright violet. Dark berry and cherry aromas show a jammy aspect. Supple and gently sweet, with good lift to its black raspberry and boysenberry flavors. Smooth and broad on the finish, leaving behind a hint of spiciness. Extremely easy to drink and an excellent value.

My Review: This wine has a very nice dark color that hints at its complexity. The nose of this wine is dominant with blueberry, blackberry and plum. On the palate, this wine has a definite spiciness, along with notes of fresh-ground pepper. It is dry, and has no heat. Though complex, all of the flavor profiles and aromas are well balanced. Definitely an easy wine to drink if you are okay with the spice.

Tasting- 2010 Tochuelo Tempranillo Granacha

Name: Tochuelo
Variety: 50% Tempranillo, 50% Grenache
Region: Madrid
Country: Spain
Year: 2010
Price: $10.99

Winery Review: The 2010 Tochuelo red is just what you’d hope for from a value Spanish red…but all too seldom get! It’s a 50/50 blend of Tempranillo and Grenache grown just south of Madrid. The show opens with gentle aromas of black raspberry, plum skin, and a dash of black pepper. Juicy and fresh in the mouth, you’ll find plenty of ripe plum and raspberry fruit lead with hints of cocoa powder and licorice root that grow stronger on the finish. Soft and easy to enjoy on its own but enough fine tannin to shine with lighter grilled foods

My Review: The color of this wine is a very intense ruby red. On the nose this wine has a wonderful bouquet of fruit including a distinctive plum and raspberry. The palate of this wine does not match its aromatics. On the palate I found the wine to be almost entirely void of all flavors, but did finish dry. I was not able to tell if the flavor was very light or simply non-existent. Overall, I would probably not buy this one again. However, my friend (who used to work at a wine shop) drank it and really liked it.

Soft tannins keep the wine together.Excellent by itself or as a compliment of meat.

I was able to taste the spice and smoke on the palate, and the tannins came through to give it a dry finish. Overall it is a good wine for the price. Definitely let this one breath for at least 30 minutes before drinking it, my second glass was significantly better than my first, and it wasn't because I couldn't taste anymore.

Winery Review: Fermentation of selected grapes in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature. Aging in American oak casks for 5 months followed by 3 months in the bottle before being released in the market. Inky Ruby. Ripe cherry and plum on the nose. Smooth and fleshy, with deep dark fruit flavors complicated by bitter chocolate and anise. A spicy quality adds lift and focus to the weighty fruit. Offers an appealing mix of power and energy and drinks very well right now.
